The periarthritis of the shoulder, also known as frozen shoulder, is an aseptic inflammation of the soft tissue. It occurs mostly in one's fifty's. It is believed to be related with chronic strain of the shoulder joint. The pain and stiffness of the shoulder joint are the common syndromes. In some cases, the patient can not move their arm. The treatments for this disease include local steroids, physiotherapy, cheirapsis, acupuncture and so on. Therefore, the result is not satisfactory. It will take two months to one year to improve. To search for a promising and cost effective therapy, we employed the TDP LAMP irradiation therapy combining with functional excises of the shoulder for this disease and achieved a good result.

General Information: 20 patients enter this uncontrolled trial. Thirteen of them are male and seven of them are female. Their age ranged from 39 to 78. The average age is 56.6 years old. The duration is one week to two years. The average duration of this disease is five months. The unilateral joint involved is 19 patients, only one patient has bilateral joint affected.

Method: The TDP LAMP irradiation device ( Made in Chong Qing, China) is used for the treatment. The irradiation distance is 40 centimeters. This therapy is provided 45 minutes for each treatment, one treatment a day, ten treatments equal a treatment course.

Result: After four to forty times treatments (average 21.3 times treatment), all the patients get pain relieved, shoulder joint function recovered. Comparing with other treatment methods, TDP LAMP irradiation therapy is more effective.

Cases report: 1) A 57 years old male patient suffered right shoulder pain and stiff for one week. TDP LAMP irradiation therapy was administrated for four times. The symptoms disappeared. 2) A 39 years old male patient had left should pain and dysfunction for an half year. After one treatment, the pain abated significantly. After six times treatments, his shoulder motion improved notably. 3) A 60 years old male had right shoulder pain and stiff for two years. His right arm was not able to move normally. After forty times treatments, his shoulder's function rebuilt, the pain relieved and he returned to his normal life style.

Twenty patients treated with TDP LAMP irradiation therapy get pain relieved and shoulder function recovered. No side effects were found. To get effective therapeutic effect, the shorter the duration of illness is, the better effect will get. At the same time the shoulder function excise is highly recommended during the irradiation therapy.
